From his news desk in Dallas, Texas, Dale Hansen spoke out in support of openly gay football player Michael Sam, and the point he made was heard round the world. Ellen had him on the show to talk about his statement in person.

Wow, Dale Hensen is a Texan? Having lived there from 1997 to 2005 before returning to my home community, Manhattan, KS, I still can't believe Mr, Hansen's courage.

How about coming to Kansas Dale, and helpping us out of the dark ages. Our governor wants us to become a little Texas so badly, he can hardly contain himself. I think Mr. Hansen could give him a few pointers. Sadly, I'm afraid he would be run out of "Brownbackistan". I suspect everyone is watching our Kansas legislature trying very hard to "legalize" discrimination against the LGBT community by claiming "religious freedom???? So embarrassing.

Although I'm a proud Texan, I'm certainly not always proud of Texas. I happened to see this live and am certainly proud he lives and broadcasts in Texas and stated his position so eloquently.

Thank you for giving recognition to this Peabody-winning sports journalist. He is thoughtful, articulate, and caring. He saw hypocrisy and used his own "bully pulpit" to call it out. While he downplayed his own heroism, he did put himself out there for criticism that could have even threatened his job. He didn't care - He wants a better place for his children and grandchildren. We all need to thank Dale Hansen for putting into words what needed to be said.
