Hobbies Knitting, crosswords, making personalised birthday cards for family and friends. Did volunteer work for a few years after I retired in 2005.
About Me Was born in Cape Town, South Africa. Married first husband in 1959 and had three sons (now aged 51, 50 and 46). Second marriage to an Australian in 1979 and moved to Sydney, Australia in October 1980. Have four grandsons, ages ranging from 27 to 23 and two granddaughters, one aged 23 and the other only 10. My darling husband passed away in April 2002, four months after being diagnosed with lung cancer and Ellen's show played an integral part in my healing process from the time I started watching her show, which was approximately mid-to-late 2003. I try to live a healthy life, I walk 4-5 days a week and do what Ellen tells us to do each day: "Be kind to one another". The only family I have living in Australia are my children and grandchildren, the rest of my siblings and extended family still live in South Africa. Love animals, had a bitza Maltese poodle (a but of this and a bit of that) who lived to almost 20 and an Abyssinian short-haired pussycat who lived to almost 21 years. Would dearly love to have another animal but unfortunately we're not allowed animals in our complex of units. I fill this void by watching Animal Planet or National Geographic channels - my all-time hero being David Attenborough and then of course our very own Australian son, Steve Irwin, had his own show which I loved watching too. CRIKEY - don't know what else I can tell you about myself except that I love life and I love people. Oh yes, there's one more thing ... been an avid baseball fan since the 1950s. Always hoped I'd make it to America one day to see a real live game but unfortunately that never happened!

Are You Ellen's Biggest Fan in Australia?

Ellen, I have admired all that you represent for many years - a kind, generous and loving human being. I've watched your talk show since mid-2003, screened on Foxtel (cable TV) and you have inspired me on a daily basis each and every day ever since. Your guests have also been inspirational, some of them willing to do whatever crazy thing you ask of them, like going in the dump tank and donating money to the Breast Cancer Society. For 10 years you have been in someone's livingroom, somewhere in the world, giving them hope to carry on, no matter what challenges lie ahead. Your generosity to needy families has been marvellous, but more than ever your love for animals and what you do for them is awe-inspiring. I have a dear friend, Fernanda, who loves animals as much as you do and I would often say that if we were living in America I would somehow get her on your show so that you can hear all the wonderful things she does. That was yonks years ago, and only a pipe-dream - and now you're coming to Sydney and oh dear heavens I would give my false teeth to be able to get a pair of tickets for her ... and me ... to attend your show in Sydney. I will be 72 years old/young on 9th May and it would be out of this world if I could boast to my six grandchildren that I've got tickets to your show. Ellen, there are probably people who deserve to get tickets more than me, but I reckon I've been your Number 1 fan since day one - way back when Ozzies only spoke of the Oprah Winfrey and David Letterman shows. I love you Ellen, you are a very special human being and the world is so much better for having you in it and being the spokesperson for all things that matter in an ever evolving world.
