About Me I have a domestic partner of 30 years. I love to fish, travel , go on mission trips with church to help rebuild peoples lives and homes, enjoy my Grandkids, and making pet beds to donate to animal shelters in the winter when it's so cold here. I volunteer at a large food pantry every week. I try to be a good person to everyone.

Tell Us About an Act of Kindness

Hello Ellen or the supporting staff that reads these. I have a story to tell of the very poor folks of the Dominican Republic. 6 years ago my partner and I started to go on vacation to Punta Cana . While we were there I inquired to the assistant manager of the resort we stay at, that if I were to bring gifts for the workers what is needed most. His answer to me was school supplies and sports equipment even if it were used. You see these people work 12 days on and 3 days off and only make $200.00 a month. How many of us can live on that. I have always been a person to help the less fortunate even though I am not rich in money, but rich in the thought of being kind to others and make someone else's world a little bit better. Last year we took 10 suitcases full of school supplies and sports equipment to the families of the workers at our resort, 70 families were served and the smiles on their faces, well WOW doesn't even come close. I am asking for help from you to either get Air Tran Airlines to wave the cost of the 12 suitcases full of school supplies and sports equipment to the Dominican Republic or some financial help to get the supplies down there this next year. I did a hand shake with my partner that I wouldn't go over 10 suitcases like we had last year, but that is one hand shake that I'll have to go back on. I purchase all of this stuff during the year and this year even my church helped out with some school supplies. I partnered with a second hand sports equipment store here called play it again sports and when ever they get used equipment in that they can't use they call me and I go get it and am trying to get it there. It will take me two years now to get it all there. Everything from used sports shoes, baseballs, helmets, baseball bats, pants, face masks. I buy used suitcases at Goodwill and St. Vincent DePaul and take the stuff in them and leave them down there for someone to use. So if you can find it in your heart to help out the kids and families in Punta Cana we would be so very grateful for your help. It now costs $75.00 per bag to send them with us on the plane. Please please Ellen, help me help others. THANK YOU so much for reading my letter. If anyone reading this would like to help us out you could send a check to our church which would be tax deductible and put in the memo line Bonnie's mission trip to First United Methodist Church 325 E. Franklin St. Appleton, Wisconsin 54911. Thank you all in advance for the help. Bonnie K.
