In 2006, Florence Welch and her friend, Isabella Summers, began performing together in the UK, eventually forming Florence + The Machine. In 2009, they released their debut album "Lungs" in the UK -- which went to the #1 spot. In July of 2009, their album was released for digital download in the US and made it to the Top 20 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. Their first single, "Kiss with a Fist," earned them worldwide attention and was featured in a variety of film and television shows. Their second single, "Dog Days are Over," had similar success.
The pivotal moment for Florence + The Machine came at this year's MTV Video Music Awards. They had one win and three additional nominations, but received the most attention after a stunning performance on the show.
