She's the fearless new host of the "Today" show… well, maybe not entirely fearless. Ellen confronted the delightful anchor with her fear. See how she reacted here.

I'm so relieved to find compassionate. loving people making comments. Normally I love everything you do, Ellen. But this event was upsetting to watch. I'm hoping you've apologized...?

i've never written a letter like this but i felt so strongly about the savanah guthrie segment. with all the talk these days about bullying i have to say that is exactly what that was. after seeing her obvious terror you should have stopped, but you persisted. it was not funny in the least. i give her all the credit in the world for not walking off your show.

Ellen, I love your show and normally think you come across as a wonderful humanitarian and great role model. That being said, I think what you did to Savannah was terrible. I share Savannah's phobia of frogs, and what you consider to be a practical joke is actually extremely cruel.

A phobia goes way beyond the kind of scare you might get from someone jumping out and startling you. No matter how irrational the fear may seem to someone else, a phobia is extremely terrifying for the person experiencing it. You're lucky she didn't have a panic attack or physically assault you because when you have a true phobia you go into fight or flight mode when you're confronted with the thing you're afraid of.

While this may just be a funny practical joke to you and other people who haven't experienced a phobia, for those of us who have them, it's not funny at all, it's traumatic. Just because you don't understand it, that doesn't mean you should just dismiss it or treat it lightly. In respect of Savannah and people with phobias, I think you owe Savannah an apology.

I still think you are a good person with a big heart and will continue to watch your show, but I have to admit you lost a little of my respect today. Please do the right thing and apologize to Savannah, and then make it a show policy going forward to not do this to any other guests with phobias.

Dear Ellen, I share Betty's (7 hours ago comment) sentiments. I love you, I love your show. I have admired you since I became aware of you. The values you regularly represent such as kindness and generosity, and speaking out against bullying I appreciate tremendously. When you chased Savannah Guthrie with a frog, when she was obviously frightened, I felt concerned for both of you, angry, surprised, and disappointed. When someone is frightened, it does not matter if it's rational, or how you feel. It matters that she feels frighted, and deserves to be treated with care. If she wants to pursue therapy to desensitize her fear, that should be her choice, and not initiated in public for entertainment at her expense. Please be careful about such things in the future. Thank you.

I,too have a fear of frogs! A childhood bully put one down my back (Robert Dale) and hit it!! I can handle things in the yard. Don't put a fake, real, or poster of a frog near me! Nightmares!

Hey Ellen, I'll first start by saying that I love everything that you do. I have been a fan from the first time I saw you doing stand up. I stuck by your side when you came out on your show. I even DVR you so that when I come home from work I can laugh until I cry. My favorite was when you had the guys dancing behind Kristin Chenoweth, funny stuff! Like I said before I love most everything you do BUT.... This episode with Savannah Guthrie was disturbing to watch. It seemed mean spirited, especially when she was asking you to stop. Actually she was begging you to stop. Her dress almost raised to a point that would have been uncomfortable for her and what if she would have fell in those heels? At the end of your show you asked us to be nice to one another with her still sitting there with sweat on her forehead, obviously recovering from this freak out she just experienced. I dont know, a little disappointing coming from you.

I sympothize with Savannah. I would have been flipping out myself! I am deathly afraid of frogs. As a child they were thrown at me and teased. I have a ton of them around my house and when I am doing some gardening, one will suprise me as it will blend in with dirt and suddenly will jump causing me to scream!
