Adoptable Pets of the Week

This holiday season, when you adopt a kitty from Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, your new cat gets a free ride to your hometown. But hurry, space is limited! Crate and air travel are free for the first 30 cats adopted. Application must be received by December 21st. Adoption fees still apply, except for “experienced” dogs and cats age 8 or older -- adoption fees are waived for senior sweeties through the end of the year!!

Slim Jim

Slim Jim is one of these playful balls of purrs, and this precious boy sure wants to grow up as part of your family! All Best Friends kittens come spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. And any of them would love to hear from you!

Slim Jim and his sister were born in June, 2012 and came to Best Friends after a homeless man traded the two kittens for a pack of cigarettes from a passerby. Slim Jim’s sister has been adopted, so now it’s his turn to go home. Are you in love? Please fill out an adoption application and let's get started!

Sapphire

Sapphire is such a good dog. Very sweet and calm, she's nice to everybody she meets, human and canine alike. This affectionate girl loves just being with you more than anything else in the world. And if you take her on a hike, she'll be your friend for life.

Born in 2009, Sapphire is in good health. She once had a home, but her person could no longer keep her. Sapphire's heart is too big not to love again. She's just waiting for the right person to discover her.

Best Friends adopts to all of the United States and Canada. Please contact Best Friends Animal Society right here.  See all the animals that need homes... at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.

You Write, Ellen Responds!

Hi Ellen, I’m Brittany, a sixteen year old from Pittsburgh, PA and I have seen the grace of innocence. I have met angels but not the kind you would imagine. They have no fluffy, feathery wings but they do wear a fluffy coat. They are not clothed in shades of white but they have specks of white mixed in with their orange and black fur. They are as pure as fresh snow. They can tell no lies nor commit no crime. They do what they have to do in order to survive and stick together. I have had since august of this year three stray male cats living on my porch; one black and white cat that I have come to call Moo for his color and two orange and white cats that I have rightfully named Einstein for his brains and Courage for his courageous attitude. My family and I have feed them and cared for them everyday since. They are in truth little miracles despite their situation. They are the friendliest cats I have ever known. Each day they have made it a habit to paw at our windows, walk us to our cars, greet me when I get home from school and follow me as I take my dog for walks. My family and I have repeatedly tried to find these three cats a home with no luck. I am worried for their safety, winter is coming and the streets of my neighborhood are no place for innocence. I am scared for them and writing you today to express that fear and hoping you can change it. I am old enough to no that there is no Santa Clause but wise enough to know there are people out there that embody Saint Nick’s kind soul. For Christmas this year I could care less about presents all I desire is a place that Moo, Einstein and Courage can call home with owners who will care and love them as much as I do. So please Ellen help me find these strays a home. Innocence should be nurtured. The strays of this world should be loved. Angels should be cared for and no one on Christmas should go without a home.

Best Friends is an amazing organization! I have volunteered twice this year and I'm already scheduled to go back again for a week in March. What they do is such a tribute to the love that they have to animals. If you get the chance, please volunteer some time or Adopt a Pet!

Beautiful eyes on the kitty, and the pup has such a soulful look. Too bad I’m not in the position to take on any more animals at this time, I’d love to have another dog.
