I feel for all of those that were involved, but I find it amazing when thousands are leaving the west coast to go help those that need it on the east coast. My husband and my brother in law left a week ago to deliver service trucks for PG&E, and have been there for the last four days assisting PG&E unload the hundred other trucks that have arrived with equipment and supplies. Due to the damage, there are no suitable docks to unload the trucks, and everything else on to, so they have been using their trailer as a dock for the rest of the trucks. It is amazing that they are there, and if anyone knew what these two men have gone through in the last year, it would bring a tear to anyone's eyes to know how quick they were to do this trip for the right reasons.
Ellen said something "donating anything and every penny counts" towards the end of the interview which reminded me of something I read about recently that relates to New York. The foundation for the Statue of Liberty was funded in part by donations. When funding was low, Joseph Pulitzer(sound familiar?)asked for donations in his newspaper(The World). In exchange for any donation no matter how small, the donor's name would be printed in the paper. Donations poured in large and small(some were even children donating pennies).
I'm not sure of all the facts but I thought that you might have someone who could research it and use the story to inspire more people to donate because every penny does count.
By the way, The Statue of Liberty was dedicated on October 28, 1886. Just 126 years and 10 days ago!
I am just such a huge Ellen fan and watch every week. Just got my power back and am surprised that Bethany Frankel is being interviewed about the storm. I live at the Jersey Shore near Mantoloking and the destruction is horrible. Maybe Ellen can have someone from her show come and interview the real residents of the Jersey Shore about their loss. I am will to take my camera out and got and talk to the people so we can see how everyone is pulling together and helping. I delivered meals last night to people who have lost all in their homes, people out working and seniors who are stuck without power and their kindness and appreciation just made me cry. Wish I could do so much more. I do thank you and Bethany for all your efforts and supports and we need all the help we can get her.
Ellen, there is a band out there called The Lonely Buscuit. They filmed a video in Normandy Beach just a few short months ago. That was my hometown. It is now destroyed. All proceeds go to support the families in Sandy's path.
I hope you will get behind them. Their music is terrific, the song is "everybody" and they are doing the right thing! You tube them!
