I have had not one, but TWO earwigs climb into my ear while I was asleep. I have never met anyone else that has had this happen to them, but after reading the comments am glad to know I am not the only one! I was beginning to wonder if I gave off earwig pheromones or something!
Perhaps Taylor saw a replay of an old Star Trek episode in which the character Checkov has an "alien" that looked like an earwig or an ant lion, only huge, placed in his ear to eat his brain. I think it was the dastardly Khan - played by Ricardo Monteban - that did it to him. Later it crawled back out of his ear along with some blood. It didn't eat his brain but made him act crazy that caused potential harm to the crew of the Enterprize, - of course.
Earwigs and ant lions are harmless. Not to fear Taylor.
I LOVE your show. I was looking rather dumb laughing and smiling while watching you on the treadmill at the gym today then you and Taylor started talking about earwigs, couldn't believe it! I had one crawl in my ear while I was sleeping. I woke up with excruciating pain and put some ear drops in my ear. What came out was blood and an earwig. Apparently it punctured my eardrum, pretty sure they don't eat brains though:-) I am not one to perpetuate fears but I HATE earwigs!
luv your show, luv u!! As a medical pro (retired) I DID have an earwig crawl in my ear as I was giving the dogs their baths! Thought it crawled out but began suffering terrible headaches and earaches. Being a city girl that moved to the Ozarks I never even thought about the bug til it crawled back out! Did a lot of scraping coming out. 2 wks of drugs to heal. Don't think it ate any brains.....friends and family might disagree!
earwigs do eat through to your brain. Did you not watch an Vincent Price movie were he killed someone using a earwig. I live at the North End Of Vancouver Island in Port Hardy and we have lots of earwigs. Every were in the house and out side. I am surprised no one here has been killed by one. They are ugly (not that thats a bad thing) and I think they do bite too. I know they do do some good to maybe they eat spiders because we have probably more earwigs than spiders. Anyway keep up the good work you are appreciated.
