Ellen Recommends 'For the Sender' by Alex Woodard

"For the Sender: Four Letters. Twelve Songs. One Story" is a beautiful book and album by singer/songwriter Alex Woodard, that follows his journey of letting go of his best friend, a labrador named Kona. He received a letter that would change his life, and what began as a song about that letter evolved into a book and an album.

It's a literary and musical experience that's close to Ellen's heart. You can find out more right here.

Reading is my escape & recently I came across this book that I really enjoyed & want to share with others. I'm not sure if you take recommendations about book to read but I figured why not give it a try. I found this book on goodreads.com & it looks like it was self published on amazon by the author. The title is Gehenna; it's written by R.M. Heenan.
This book is a must read! After I downloaded it to my iPhone, I couldn't put it down! It's a story based in the late 50's - early 60's when NYC had an actual night life. This book has everything from innocence to murder. However, don't take my word for it, go to www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00D9DF... and read the sample chapters. Trust me you'll love it and want to read more!! It's a story I didn't want to end.
I just thought I'd share my thoughts with you & maybe help this inspiring author get the recognition this book deserves. One thing I've always believed in is paying it forward.

Hi Ellen
I watch your show religiously, as it guarantees to put a smile on my face. The help you give to people is inspiring. I've been trying to figure out how to enter to win the $20,000, but couldn't seem to find out where to do that. With so many people suffering and in need, I find it hard to ask for help for myself. I have developed a degenerative illness (osteo arthritis) that has forced me to stop working. I would never have expected to find myself in this position at 54. I've been applying for government assistance without any success. If people knew how difficult it is to try and avail yourself of the benefits you pay into your entire adult life, they'd be shocked. Going through a really rough time physically, mentally, financially. Please enter my name to try to win the $20,000. I can't tell you what it would mean to my life to find this kind of help. My daughters are very worried about me, and I'm sure they would breath a sigh of relief if I got some help. Thanks for all you do to help people in need. You truly are an inspiration, and I want you to know that my prayers are with you and Portia for all that you do to make this world a better (and funnier) place. Keep on dancing!

I wrote a book about my life, don't have the money to get it printed but I'll bet you would love to read it. I was married to not 1 but 2 abusive husbands, first husband tried to kill me one more than one occasion, once was our daughter, himself and me with me dying first. Not quite sure how I was able to get away from that monster, he ended up killing his girlfriend then himself shortly after our divorce. My book I've heard is very good, wish I could get it published. Thanks for this chance to get this off my chest----I LOVE YOUR SHOW, be kind to one another!!!

Ellen your very face always makes me smile and laugh not because your funny looking but because you have a great smile and you are not afraid of being who you are. I love your humor.. I would love to send you my new book I just had published called "Can I Be Me without losing you?" We could have some fun on your show together!! I am one of nine girls born in England into a catholic family, yes that in itself was a problem. I spent a few years trying to find my own voice and speak my truth but now I have and I'm sharing my journey in my new book. Along with Eckhart Tolles book A New Earth and Bruce Liptons Spontaneous Evolution I have figured me out and now Im sharing it with the world.. send me an address where I can mail a copy to you!!thanks chenty

Hi Ellen & Portia,

Love your show. So glad I go to work an hour earlier so I can get home to watch the full hour of your show each day. I'm glad to hear you both had a great time in Australia.

I just ordered 'For The Sender'. While ordering this book I also ordered 'The Dalai Lama's Cat' I think you may like this book. It is written from the cat's perspective - very spiritual - very inspirational and uplifting. I believe that the author, Dave Muchie, lives in Perth Australia. Take good care of your back and each other.

What fun! I whole heartedly concur with Sienna below! I'd read about The Liquid City by Curtis J Hopfenbeck in GQ's '5 Best Books of The Year' list a couple of years ago. His characters are hilarious; it was the most fun I'd ever had reading a book. Plenty of tissues required for both tears of joy and despair! I haven't seen anything else out yet by Hopfenbeck, does anyone have an update? I hope it's soon since I've read The Liquid City about a hundred times already. Such a joy! Ellen, get him on your show! Just sayin'! Love you!

Ellen & Portia,

G'Day Girls, fun seeing you Down Under! Hey, I read The Liquid City by Curtis J Hopfenbeck after I read the recommendation here last year and absolutely thought it was the most touching and humorous bit of fiction I'd read in years. My question is, since Hopfenbeck is soooo witty, and since he also touches so beautifully and delicately on Lesbianism, did you and Portia have any influence on the book or was it just all Hopfenbeck's amazing prose? And I thought maybe since he was such a handsome bloke that you might have him on your show and give us ladies down under a gorgeous American treat! Ta Ta girls, come back to the out back soon!

Hello, I was not used to watching TV shows like yours but I enjoy your show very much. I recently found that I am very ill and had to quit my job , I miss working. My request or asking for guidance is for my book. I have written some but I don't know where to go from here, such as, the process to the point of getting it published. Would you help me know what to do next? Please.

Thank you, Roberta Sanchez.

Wish you would read my book. It's a children's book. I am self=published but just accepted into Barnes & Noble stores. I am 63 yrs old and just published my first book. I guess you could say I'm a late bloomer. I have no formal training - I had an epiphany and just started writing. It didn't happen over night but Mr Wayne Dyer would love my inspirational story- it truly is an amazing story and journey that is my life.

I learned today watching your show that your birthday is the 26th of January. Mine is the 25th. Oh well close but not cigar! I would like to plan to come with my daughter Jennifer next year and see your show. She has placed seeing you on the top of her bucket list! Sounds like fun. If you can do anything to make sure we get tickets for that week next year we would be so happy! ITs so cold here in January. You are in the right place.
Happy Happy Happy Birthday

Hi Ellen,
My wife is a big fan and never misses a show here in Australia(have to admit that I like the show as well - You Rock!). With the long flight to Australia you might want something to read so thought I would share with you that her new fantasy novel - Cloud Riders (Lord of the Planets, #1)is currently on Amazon for Free download this weekend at:
http://www.amazon.com/Cloud-Riders-Lord-Planets-ebook/dp/B00APTWN38/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1357982178&sr=8-2&keywords=debbie+behan
Looking forward to seeing you in Australia and P.S. Debbie would kill me if she knew I had done this.
