Ellen found a great school with amazing teachers. She sat down with one of them to show her audience what makes this school so great. Thanks to Target, the school was awarded $100,000, and each teacher got a $500 Target gift card!

Southern Tioga School District, Mansfield, PA - Tioga County is in deep trouble. There are 3 high schools within this district. It is a very poor area and covers a very large area of woods. All monies give must be shared between the three schools and Mr. Paul David III (Bill) is stressed to the point of severe worry at trying to stretch the budget fairly. These schools are in desperate need of help. Mrs. David is a Kindergarten teacher and runs a preschool using all her own purchased books and supplies. Two years ago she lost everything due to a fire in her building. Mr. David is my son and I see how the stress is effecting him personally. They live in a home that needs alot of work, his salary is low due to the condition of the area and his life is fillled with stress. He is a good man, very intelligent, very caring and gives of himself 100%. Please Ellen, I see how you manage to help people in deep need. Would you be so kind to look into this area and help in some small way. It would be appreciated deeply. He tries to get an appointment with the Governor and gets no reply. He attends every event in the school and has to cut many programs leaving the bare bone necessities. I fear for his health, this is his life and he wants and tries to make a difference. He doesn't make demands for himself, he wants only for the betterment of the area. I thank you, and realize you can not help everyone although you try. All I ask is you look into this situation. You are the best Ellen. I thank God for you and all you do.

Ellen, Let me start by telling you that I am writing to you in hopes that you will be able to help us. I am the P.T.O. president of an amazing school. The teachers and students are really incredible. The work so hard and have overcome many disadvantages, we are a school with 98% poverty rate, and many of the students come spanish only speaking homes. Which as you can imagine puts them at another disadvantage when it comes to learning. The pto committe and I work very very hard to raise funds for our school but, those funds go to funding the school field trips. Which in many cases if it wasn't for the school these kids would not otherwise, see and learn things they see and learn on the trips. But even with their disadvantages they still seem to shine, they manage to be one of the top schools academically. I'm happy to say that we are being blessed with a new school. Which this comes with other challenges, we unfortunately must raise $5,000.00 for an new park. It might not seem like a lot of money or a big need but, we have no park. The school today has 2 swings and monkey bars, and that is it for over 600 students to share.

Ellen I'm writing to tell you about an amazing school, one that I believe deserves a helping hand. I am the P.T.O. president of an incredible school. We have a school with 98% free or reduce lunch which means they are at or below the poverty line. Beside this many of the kids come from spanish only speaking families and dispite these disadvantages they have managed to to be one of the istricts top schools academically. We are being blessed with a new school campus, but unfortunately this does not include a park. The P.T.O. committe work very hard to raise funds for the school but, these funds go primarily towards the funding of the school field trips. For many children this is the only opportunity that they have to enjoy different experiences that they are othereewise not able to see and learn. We have the great responsabilty to try to come up with 5,000.00 to have our park built. We are working hard but, unfortunately at this time this dream seems far from our reach. You might say a park is not a big deal but, when you consider that our kids alot of the times just walk around the field because there's not a swing or a slide to enjoy for us it's heart breaking. When you see how hard the teachers and students work and this is something so small that can make a big difference why not over extend yourself and sacrifice for such a big reward. Thank You for even taking time to listen to our story.

I am writing to you like so many others, I know we all have needs and are all placing are hopes on you. Let me start off by telling you that I am the P.T.O. president of an amazing school. The teachers and students are wonderful and work so hard, they work so hard in fact that they have reached exemplarary status for the school. And even though we have a huge disadvantage than other schools in the district they some how manage to receive the highest scores in the district when it comes to state testing. Our prolem is that we are a school with 98% poverty rate, and many of these students come from spanish only speaking households. So this puts them at another disadvantage. But even though we are getting our school rebuilt, we unfortunately have to come up with $5,000 for a new park. The rest of the p.t.o. committe and I work very hard to raise money, but our funds go for the kids field trips. Which in some case if they don't go through the shcool they would not otherwide, be expose to some of the things they see and learn on these trips.

My name is Donna, I am a parent of a 12 who has suffered with life threatening allergies since she was 3. Over the years it has always been very difficult for her to be included in some of the simplest things in her life. One being eating lunch with her friends. Our school district is just outside of Chicago, IL and has 4 elementary schools and on Junior high, the district has a large amount of low income families which receive hot lunch waivers. Because of the recent turn in most school budgets our district can not afford to seek out another vender for the hot lunch program. The current company leaves a lot to be desired. My daughter as well as 2 other students recently started a petition and gathered information to show that out of 80 students polled 73 admit to going hungry rather than eat the food. This is not helping the overall learning process, nor the health of the students. My daughter can not even check a label before eating a hot lunch because there is no ingredient label available for her. It would be a blessing for you to help the entire school district. We need one school to be set up with a working kitchen and then the food can be delivered to the other four schools. It would be helping so many kids, and preventing them from going hungry during the school day. For some kids I think it may be the only hot meal they get. (Sad but true) My daughter does not normally eat the hot lunch because of her allergies but she watches her friends go with out, because they have no choice. It would mean so much to so many!

Ellen, Thank you for all the people and families you have helped and continue to help. You have truly changed so many lives!!!!

Sincerely,
Donna

My name is Dawn..Sean and I send you emails all the time..I live in a home with the most inspiring young girl that Sean and I have ever met. Her name is Veronica Siaba. She was born on 12/25/1999. She was a premie and diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Veronica has never been able to walk. That never stopped Veronica or her parents Tony and Maria from encouraging Veronica to fulfill her dreams. Veronica herself inspired a pediatric physical therapist named Joanne Ferrera to start a non profit organization in 2002 called Dancing Dreams. This Non profit organization started because Veronica showed up for physical therapy in a tutu and said she wanted to be a ballerina. That's when the story began. Since then she has been on the local news yearly. She was on with Meredith Vieira and even received a message from the previous first lady Laura Bush for Thanksgiving in 2008.. She has inspired this dance company to go from 3 to 50. She has been the young woman responsible for giving others with disabilities a dream.
The Dancing Company even published a wonderful book called “Ballerina Dreams”.
Please google all the above and I will attach a link to her latest news story.
I BEG YOU TO GOOGLE DANCING DREAMS AND WATCH THEIR yearly SHOWS.
We have written several folks such as Extreme home-makeover to make her home wheel chair accessible to no avail. We wrote to Oprah, We wrote to Donald Trump and no one listens to our story. Your different Ellen...You make things happen..
Sean and I live upstairs to this phenom...we adore her and her parents that we rent an apartment from. We got the news 2 months ago that they will finally be able to buy a home that will be wheel chair accessible for Veronica and improve the quality of all their lives. She is now 13 and its awfully hard to carry a young woman that can not be without her very heavy wheelchair up and down all these stairs.
We will miss them terribly but we are very happy for them..especially since her grandparents and aunt will move in downstairs where our star was born. At least we will still get to hear her giggling outside our window when she visits and plays with her cousins.....
Please check out Veronica Siabas stories and her newest link below.
I beg you to consider having our Courageous Ballerina’s on your show and let the world know there is no obstacle that can stop any one from achieving their dreams.

Hi Ellen,

It's me again. I'm the counselor at Sierra Vista Elementary school. I ran our of letters on the other site. But I wanted to tell you what a great school we have and what great kids we have. We also have may needs as well. I have gotten children school supplies and I send children to our clothing bank. I work closely with a local church and they bring us food for our backpack program. I also work with the local Food bank to help supplement our backpack program. Over Thanksgiving and Christmas, we will be providing some of our families with food baskets and gifts for the children. Last year the STAR Team set up a GIVING TREE and we sponsored a number of families for Christmas.

You are a great person Ellen!!!! Could you help me help these children? I want to get a playground makeover because our playground is hard dirt and our children need to be able to play safely at recess. I would like to see a nice running track for the Runner's Club and I would like to see our STAR Team recognized for all their Philanthropy work in the greater Albuquerque community. I get tired of hearing people tell me "We can't do that!" I want to hear, "How can we help you?" These are precious children who deserve what other children get to enjoy. Our children need to be safe and have great opportunities as well. I look forward to hearing from you. Anything you can do to help will be GREATLY appreciated!!!!

Good Morning Ellen,
Can you help Hedgepeth-Williams School, of Trenton, New Jersey build a Playground. Hedgepeth-Williams is a great learning institution. But the one thing it lacks is a playground. The children have to tiptoe on the dilapidated asphalt, because falling is not an option. It is painful knowing they have no safe place to play, laugh, and live .
I know you are a mover and a shaker. You are the breathe of fresh air this project needs. The history of Hedgepeth-Williams School is a history the world needs to know about .
January 31, 1944, the New Jersey Supreme Court rendered its decision in the Hedgepeth-Williams case. Chief Justice Newton Porter ruled "It is unlawful for boards of education to exclude children from any public school on the grounds that they are of the Negro race". Justice N. Porter’s decision declared that de facto (in effect) racial segregation of educational facilities was a violation of the NJ School Law of 1881 which protected children against being forced to attend schools according to race or nationality, the New Jersey State Constitution, and the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution.
This decision paved the way for the eradication of racial and ethnic discrimination in the adoption of New Jersey’s third Constitution of 1947 which outlawed racial segregation in the public schools and in the state militia. As the first state to make such provisions constitutionally, New Jersey altered its image of racial conservatism. More importantly, for the first time since 1884, black pupils and teachers were placed in schools and classes on a nonracial basis. Hedgepeth-Williams v. Board of Education, Trenton, NJ (1944) was cited as precedence in the landmark United States Supreme Court’s decision in Brown v. Board of Education, Topeka, KS (1954) which banned school segregation nationwide.

I know how you feel about education, and childhood obesity. Hope will will take on this project. We really need your expertise. Let's make it happen, Ellen.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Leslie Johnson ,President

It is Wednesday, September 26, and I am actually at home in time to see your show live. I noticed at the bottom of the tv screen about you helping a school. And to send in my story and you would possibly help our school. My husband and I both graduated from our school. Our two oldest children graduated from our school and we have a son who is a Junior this year. We are a very small private school in rural Georgia. My school has been open since 1969. We are really struggling right now, because of issues going on in our county. We only have 131 kids in K3-12th grade. The name of my school is Nathanael Greene Academy in Siloam, GA. Can you help our school? PLEASE.
I love your show and look forwarded to hearing from you.

PLEASE get Hilary Duff and the charity she volunteers for to help with food and stuff as well. It's called Blessings In A Backpack' and they fill backpacks full of food on Friday and the children bring them back on Monday and it goes all throughout the school year...That school would make an excellent candidate for them.
